Digital Library Web Interface

The VWG is currently developing a Digital Library Web Interface on the theme of the 50th Anniversary of Desegregation at UF. This project will provide an information/research portal to the history, literature, politics, and art from this era in our SL library space. More information to come.

This group was formed for those interested in learning more about how virtual worlds can be applied in the libraries. We meet on the second Friday of every month from 11am-12pm EST (8am-9am SLT) in SL (Cybrary City, 97 x 15 x 24; slurl) to discuss how this technology can aid in education and distance communication. We are currently planning our Fall Lecture Series, and we always welcome guests!

The Library Virtual Worlds Group will be hosting a virtual lecture by Paul Fishwick, Professor of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida, on Friday, September 12, 11am-12pm. Prof. Fishwick will be leading a discussion on the role of libraries in virtual worlds as well as on his recent work in Second China. Come join us in Second Life at (Cybrary City, 97 x 15 x 24; slurl), or come join us in West 212 for a live simulcast. Prof. Fishwick received his B.S. in Mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University, M.S. in Applied Science from the College of William and Mary, and Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He is a Fellow of the Society for Computer Simulation (SCS) and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has also had much experience working with games and simulations for learning and cognition.

I need help with this project -- please come upstairs at our space in Cybrary City and click on one of the cubes on the conference table. Please let me know if they give you a t-shirt and feel free to post a pic of your av wearing the shirt! Seeing what they look like on different avs will help me work on these more efficiently. This will also greatly help in developing items to give away at the library! Thank you!
